72-Hour Waiting Period: Your license will be issued 72 hours after payment, unless you qualify for a waiver (military, marital counseling certificate, or judge's order). You may apply for a waiver on the next screen. The license is valid for 90 days.

72-Hour Waiver

Texas law requires a 72-hour waiting period before a marriage license becomes effective. The following exemptions are available:

No Waiver

Standard 72-hour waiting period applies. Fee: $81.00

Marital Counseling

Certificate from authorized counselor. Fee reduced to $21.00

Military Service

One or both applicants on active duty. Standard fee applies.

Judge's Order

Active court order waiving the waiting period.
